Yesterday, my foundation (the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation) made presentation to beneficiaries of my 2023/24 Education grant for different categories made up of students of Bayelsa West and Bayelsa state origin in various tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State totalling over a thousand in all.
The grants covered various categories:
PhD Students – N100,000
Law students- N100,000
Masters Degree Students – N50,000
Undergraduates – N40,000.
Grants were also awarded to secondary and primary schools in the community, in addition to several other individual education related support. This is a continuation of my investment in education and human capacity development which is the most important investment any leader can make, as I have always said. Bayelsa, the Ijaw nation and Nigeria generally needs consistent and clear headed investment in education. This is what I have done in all my public life.
I call on the beneficiaries to be focused and aim high. The grant is not intended to nor is it enough to solve all problems. but just a token of encouragement and to let them know that their education is important to us. I call on the beneficiaries and all youths to shun cultism, drug abuse and other vices.
I thank the organising team and dignitaries for finding time to be here. I call on the private sector and corporate citizens in Bayelsa, Niger Delta and Nigeria generally to support the foundation’s education programmes. This is the surest way to build a stable, safe and secure society and that is what I have been doing in my little way.
I thank the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Senator Lawrence Ewrhudjakpor for attending and representing his Boss the governor.
I call for more scholarships and more consistent investment in the educational sector.
