Today, I attended the funeral of our late elder statesman and leader, Late Honorable T.K. Okorotie.
I thank His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State and Senator Lawrence Ewrhudjakpor, his deputy, and the Government of Bayelsa State, the former Deputy governor, Assembly members led by the Speaker, former speakers and members of assembly, the traditional rulers of Sagbama and Ekeremor, leaders of Bayelsa West, Caucus leaders, Party Chairman and other stakeholders of the PDP, I thanked everyone, the PANDEF representatives, the entire political leadership of the state was there and I was very happy that all assembled to give Pa Okorotie a befitting farewell which he rightly deserves.
In my remarks, I said Pa. Okorotie being a father and leader to all of us has been involved in the politics and governance of our State right from old Rivers State till date and has served in all the governments. He was a backbone to Chief Melford Okilo’s government, he was Chief Alamieyeseigha’s S.A Political and he remained loyal to him till death, when I became governor, he was one of my father’s and advicers, I gave him prominence as he is one of the elders and Father I can count on. His patriotism, involvement in Ijaw affairs and Niger Delta issues is commendable. We have truly lost an elder statesman and a leader.
Someone said, Chief Okorotie, after leaving the post of Chief Whip of the House of Assembly, never left the office behind for anybody, there can be no other majority Chief Whip like Chief T.K.O.
We thank God for the clement weather and pray that God will bless and take everybody who came to their homes in peace and grant his soul eternal rest and comfort the family and all of us.
