Yesterday, in continuation of my New Year visits to Community leaders and Stakeholders of the Senatorial District, I paid a courtesy call on His Highness, Agbodo Gbaseimor, Amananaowei of Ekeremor Town who received me and my delegation with his council of Chiefs, Women, Youth leaders and Stakeholders of the Community and other elders.
I conveyed my New Year felicitation to them and I thanked the Amananaowei for his fatherly support to all of us over the years. I thanked the stakeholders, women, youths and others for their warm and enthusiastic reception even though the notice was short.
I was touched when the community reeled out the projects that I was able to do that affects them especially the road which I took over from the NDDC from Ebedebiri to Ekeremor, inspite of the recession and the challenges of the terrain. I agree with them that only one who means well for his people will have the courage to embark on a project of this magnitude.
I am happy that after my pioneering and back breaking efforts, the road has been finally delivered and our people are enjoying the dividends of that effort. I thank all the communities for supporting the security, plans and for not being a clog in the wheel of the progress of the road while it was under construction, I thank the youths for behaving and conducting themselves, I thank the land owners, the contractors Dantata and Sawoe and later Setraco both of which I awarded the contract to. As the community thanked me for executing this projects that has been in the drawing board for over sixty years, I also expressed our collective appreciation to the governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, for putting finishing touch to the road project.
I told the King and everyone in Ekeremor that the next phase of the road construction project will be from Ekeremor to Agge and that I have discussed with the governor and he has severally expressed his commitment to embark on it. I hope to be around during the commissioning and the ground breaking of the Ekeremor Agge road at which event I may say more. I have also mentioned it to the Honorable Minister of Petroleum for State on the need for Federal collaboration with the State Government on the next phase of the road and the planned development of the ports in Agge as my government had initiated. I urged them to support the Government and also pray for their son the Honorable Minister for expected dividends and development.
I also took time off to inspect the Ekeremor Motor Park which is part of my constituency project to enable commuters from other Communities going to Ekeremor Local government park their vehicles safely. I hope to be around to officially commission it soon.
In company of the Local Government chairman and other stakeholders, I visited the part of the community most affected by coastal erosion which is threatening the entire Community, particularly a section of the secondary school. I observed sadly how the contract which my government awarded to prevent the erosion and which the present government continued with, failed to contain the heavy surge of the coastal currents. I saw how the current has collapsed the structure twice. I informed the community that I have already taken it up with the ecological office for intervention. This is one project the federal government through the ecological funds must support the state and the community.
I also listened to the presentations about other developmental needs of the people most of which we have already initiated actions. I have noted this and i have assured them that we will try our best.
I called on all to observe a minute silence in honour of our leader, Chief Honorable T.K.O Okorotie who was called to be with his creator after a fulfilled life and several decades of dedicated service to our people.
Once again, I am grateful to the Amananaowei and his council of Chiefs, CDC Chairmen, Stakeholders, Women and Youths of the entire community and Local Government for the warm reception and welcome.
