Yesterday, I had the honour of receiving a delegation of the Ekine Sekiapu Club of Opume, who paid a new year visit to me. Once again, true to their type, they displayed the rich cultures of the Ijaw people especially the Ekine Sekiapu cultural group which are custodians of our rich cultural heritage spanning over a century now.
As a result of my love and support for Ijaw culture and tradition, I became a member of the Ekine Sekiapu Club of Opume which was the first and thereafter, I was inducted into the Sekiapu of both Nembe Bassambiri (Opu- Nembe) and Ogbolomabiri (Nembe City), also the Kalabari Ekine Sekiapu of Buguma it’s spiritual headquarters which was presided by the Amayanabo himself. I received them and I enjoyed their display some of which I performed with them, their masquerades also entertained my family, I and my guests. I assured them of my preparedness at all times to continue to support the good works they are doing, retaining the rich cultural heritage of the Ijaw nation and passing it on to succeeding generations.
I thank them for their fraternal visit and I wish them Happy New Year!
